That's certainly so. Some years ago, not long after the Society lightened up on college in 1992 and when I was still naive about the inner workings of the Society, a liberal elder explained to me about the 'liberal' and 'conservative' camps at Bethel. The former tended to be associated with the writing dept. and the latter with the service dept. You might look at it as a battle between the theoreticians and those who have to put theory into practice.
: Perhaps the fact that the USA had a drop in average publishers this year, for the first time since 1978--and despite fairly strong growth among the non-English speaking groups--will provide a clue that the old way of doing things may not be working.
This is the first I've heard this news, but it's what I was expecting. The Jaracz camp tends to crack the whip when stuff like this happens, but no one likes it. It'll be interesting to see what they do next.
