In this case, they are telling the truth while lying. When they say that they are not paid, this is true if you consider the most common definition of to pay, that is, to receive money for work or services.
What is not said is that they are very well compensated for what they do. They certainly receive something for their services, it is just not money.
It is clear that the intent is to give the impression that, by receiving no pay, the GB is not compensated. That is the lie here.
