I am unsure to whick religion you are referring here, but these points may be worth considering.
1] They 'tithe' or require some form of regular donations.
2] They have a 'fund-raising' scheme aimed at generating revenue
3] They conduct other commercial activities to supplement their regular income.
4] They are subsidised in their printing operations.
Maybe there are more scenarios.
I don't think any of us are under any delusions that the profit margins of the Society
are "high" compared to a similar commercial operation.
(Other comments will attest to this fact)
The profit margins should not stop one from seeing that the Society uses such generated funds
in a largely responsible manner.
Whether one agrees with such use or not, is not the point.
I must admit in all fairness that I have never attended one 'financial meeting' where the prime emphasis
has not been to apply and administer the funds in a responsible and theocratic manner.

CR - wishing I had a small siphon on those vast resources to be looked after in perpetuity!
But then that may not be applying the funds responsibly!
