forced to go to meetings?

Not all people who lurk here are free to stop going
to meetings. Some people are financially dependent
on others, some may have controlling relatives, some
may have to take an elderly relative to meetings, or
otherwise be coerced to attend.

How do you endure the boredom of meetings that neither
instruct nor inspire? Here's some tips:

Pretend to take notes. Always do your grocery list
during meetings. If you attend school, you may be
able to write essays for class while looking as
compliant as the rest.

Bring small paperback books along and read them in the
security of the bathroom stall.

Bring along college/classroom notes and study them
in a folder that looks like what everyone else is
using for notes. Use small, single sheet material that
won't be noticed. Always save material that must be
memorized for study at meetings.

If you are a brother, save all those short, single
page reports for meetings - usually they're a quick
read with time needed to meditate on what decision
should be made - perfect for meetings!

Volunteer to work the sound if you are separate from
the normal seating and it allows you to read stuff
away from the view of others.

Volunteer to take some kid to the bathroom or to
walk the halls aimlessly while helping some
beleagered single mom get a minutes' peace of mind.

If you are rich, try buying a special gadget called
a Neurophone. Supposedly, it can transfer audio
direct to the nervous system without anything audible
taking place!

These are just a few hints to make life more bearable
for those who must continue to suffer through the
"rich spiritual bounty" the Society so thoughtfully
provides.
