AF,
Strawman.
You posed the following questions to Friend;
Was his confession voluntary, or did he have to be accused by others before confessing? [p. 113]
Was his reluctance to speak more a result of deep shame than of lack of repentance? [p. 113]
Above all, does he show true repentance and manifest a heartfelt desire to avoid repetition of the wrong? [p. 113]
The problem is that Greg's post wasn't about confession OR repentance. You brought that up. It was about an apology.
A confession is not an apology, and an apology does not equal repentance.
They are all three steps towards reconciliation. Greg DID confess, true, he did apologize, true. You may say it was insincere, but that is a red herring. No one is arguing whether it was sincere or not except you. It's not about sincerity, did he offer an apology, YES OR NO?
Apology: An expression of regret, fault, etc.
(Webster's New World Dictionary)
And then finally, repentance. But that remains to be seen.
You are allowing yourself to get too worked up over Greg's offerance of an apology, no matter what kind of packaging it may have arrived in.
