I agree. I’m not married yet, but my girlfriend has taught me a couple of things about apologizing. She looks into my eyes, listens very attentively to the intonation of my voice, and scans the content of my message. She’s really good at detecting half-@ss apologies.
Unfortunately, we don’t have Greg Stafford in person to judge his body language. Even though his apology was delivered in a Clintonian fashion (meddled with an attack on Judge Starr), I think he meant it. Your points are very well expressed, but you are forgetting that for him, a person trained on the Watchtower art of not apologizing, what he did took some breaking away from engrained patterns. If he is not really sorry, he will commit the same infraction over and over again; if he’s trying to pull the wool over our eyes, eventually he’ll show his true colors. At the moment, the best course seems to accept his apology at face value and move on, IMHO.
