But that's exactly the point, a genuine defense of what someone believes and what motivated them to do something that others disagreed with (perhaps leading to their demands for an apology), is all that a person can give back. As you'll see in Farkel's post and my reply in this topic, sometimes the an apology itself can come from the lips of a Monster if deemed politically "correct." It's the apologia or explanation for one's actions that help others determine sincerity, which is what an apology itself is symbolic of.
Greg finally made the symbolic gesture for those too unforgiving of others to accept less, and I think his opponents didn't bargain on that. I appreciate his going that "extra mile" if it makes others feel better, even though again it's not merely the apology but the understanding of why someone said what they said to offend ourselves, and whether the offense was their true heartfelt intention. That is the spirit behind the formal apology.
