It seems that the Mormons also had their own Freddy Franz.
Mormons believed that as the church's spiritual leader, Benson, was in contact with the divine when he made pronouncements of faith. Most didn't know their aging spiritual leader had suffered two cerebral hemorrhages and couldn't recognize most people. The proclamations of faith were actually coming from church aides.
"The trouble was, in reality, grandpa was physically debilitative," Benson’ grandson said. "The church was trying to hide that."
“Why do they call great-grandpa a prophet if he can't do anything?" "I thought, 'What am I doing playing this game?'”
