I always liked the one where they say, I'll have to do some research on that, and get back to you. Of course they neve get back to you, and if you ask them again, they say OH, I forgot all about that I will try and get to it as soon as possible.
Another one I like was the come back to anything they don't like. It was "Yeah, but" and then they change the subject. Every time you get it back to the quesion you asked they started over with "Yeah, but".
As for trying to help, that can only come when they start to have some doubts. Then they have to find out things on their own. If you try to tell them something is wrong with their religion, well it just brings up a wall. Until they can break the denial, all one can do is pray.
