All I remember was that when Freddy told the writing dept., notably Dunlap, Ray Franz and Rinehart Lingtadt and one other to do the "Aid to Bible Understanding" book, they discovered that there was a "body" of older men in the first century, rather than a president (which historically is only partially true) and so as far as I know, they got the idea from the first century churches. So, in actuality, the GB idea may have come from mostly what they consider "apostates." Not absolutely sure on this, but Crisis probably reveals more.
