I would say that another part of the 'WHY?' is that many of those who are
attracted to very rigid environments are looking for some sort of external
control over the desires and feelings that haunt them. This external source
provides the boundaries on the surface, thing is if no one is around to see
them do something then the controls have lost their power.

I can't believe how that statement has been showing up in my life lately. My post about my friend that really didn't accept my gifts (Boo-Hoo) is just ONE example. Last year I gave him a Kachina Doll on the day of his birthday. I gave it to him one to one. This year, I gave him some gag gifts, and four other people were party to it, and it upset him. Just like in your post! If NO ONE is around to see, the controls loose their power.
