Some of these guys, and gals should be in jail. They have broken laws which would require jail time if they were taken to court, but it is just kept quite, and swept under the carpet.
I know a couple of JWs who frequently copy commercial audio CDs (they borrow them somewhere and make a batch of copies for themselves). Asked one of them if he didn't know this is illegal and got the confident response that it is *not* illegal because they aren't selling the copies (apparently a widespread belief). Well, of course that's nonsense, and I explained it to him. Answer: "err, they're making up new laws all the time...". My response: "That's not a new law, it's plain old copyright law. And even if it was *not* illegal, don't you think it is clearly immoral, being a form of stealing? Aren't you using something that you should have paid for?". Answer: "errrrrrr...I think it's OK and others are also doing it".
Aaargh! I just cannot get it! I'm sure these folks would immediately burn their collections of copied CDs as soon as a Watchtower article came out and explicitly said so. Until then, no need to switch on those brains and think for themselves. As long as the elders don't say anything it's fine.
Wasn't there some article in a recent WT about this non-JW married to a JW wife who said he didn't get baptized because he feels unable to live up to the high moral standards of Witnessdom?
