I have often wondered about those same things.
I think it is some unwritten code that says it's OK to shaft your brother because he won't sue you, and he won't sue you because it would make the congregation look bad.
I have seen it so many times, I even complained about it, but it did no good. I have seen elders take advantage of other members of the congregation, and each other. Still nothing happens.
Sister Jezebel, local clique leader and P.O.'s wife, is always selling some new get well fast pills. They never work, but every time she gets a new batch the whole congregation seems to be at her door buying them.
I know of people who have borrowed money, at no interest of course, but never pay it back. There is a lot of complaining, but no court action. I think the reason they never take each other to court is because they don't want the community to know just how "worldly" they act. The good of the congregation you know!
Some of these guys, and gals should be in jail. They have broken laws which would require jail time if they were taken to court, but it is just kept quite, and swept under the carpet.
I guess thats what they call unity???
