Hello BJ,

I was just pointing out some critical differences between Luke and the other gospel accounts of this speech.

Luke lets us know by his reference to "appointed times of the nations" and the Jews going into exile that the "system of things" in the foretext of Jesus' speech was this same "appointed times of the nations." Luke proves that these "appointed times of the nations" would not end after the destruction of Jerusalem but would continue on into the future.

Since these disciples were also familiar with Daniel, they certainly understood about the "7 times" prophecy and the APPOINTED TIME for the nations to rule which would be 2520 years.

So in line with your comment, Luke may have avoided the reference to the Daniel-prophesied great tribulation that would occur as part of the signs of the last days and, instead, focussed on the destruction of Jerusalem in 70CE also mentioned in Jesus' speech. It didn't mean that they were the same event.

Keeping that in mind, Luke does specifically say, after mentioning the signs of the last days at Luke 21:12 "Now BEFORE these things...".

Add that thought to the fact that the "great tribulation" of Daniel was to be a ONE-TIME EVENT, and event that only happens once and an event so unique and shocking that no one would be in any doubt that the Messiah was about to arrive. And that meant specifically a time when the Jews would almost be wiped off the planet. A time when they would face total genocide of not just their young men of war or conspiractors but their children.. their old men and young men, virgin and mother. GENOCIDE. In fact, if the days had not been cut short "no flesh would be saved."

THAT event could not be missed historically. That is when the Jews would throw their money into the street since it could not buy their lives, but only pay for their transport to the death camps. That is the horror that would mark when the Messiah was to soon appear. And that horror was not the destruction of Jerusalem, which does not live up to the gravity of what is described in Daniel, Matthew or Mark. Only the HOLOCAUST does that. And remind you, this was prophesied long before Jesus came onto the scene, so this didn't have anything with the Jews killing Jesus. This was something else that was to happen to "that nation" (Daniel 12), as part of the "dashing of the holy ones to pieces."

That "great tribulation" to "that nation" and to the "flesh" of the Jews did shock the world. That event was the HOLOCAUST. And just as the prophecy also said, "after the tribulation of those days" a period of darkness of the sun and moon would take place and then the Messiah would come. This addresses the period of 45-year time from the end of the 1290 days which ends after the tribulation and the 1335 days, which is when the Messiah would arrive.

So when you harmonize the prophecies of Matthew and Mark with the 1290 days and 1335 days of Daniel, it all fits. With only 80 years for all these things to occur, of note, that would mean the "great tribulation" would have to come and be over within the first 35 years since it would take at least 45 years of "darkness" period from the end of the tribulation after 1290 days until the 1335 days when the Messiah would arrive. So of note, the HOLOCAUST did occur within the first 35 years from 1914.

The 1290 days ended appropriately when the Jews were sanctioned to return to Palestine in 1947. The 1335 days thus ended in 1992.

The great tribulation is a ONE-TIME EVENT that only happens once and it was to be something that never happened before in human history. The HOLOCAUST qualifies on several counts.

Now, BJ, you may resist this interpretation... But can't you see why someone else would accept this?

The Bible is true.

Its prophecies are real.

Its chronology precise.

Know this.

Cheers,
Bibleman
