I wholeheartedly agree with your viewpoints regarding scholarship and the lack thereof in GS's writings. It is possible that he was merely reacting to the torrent of criticisms that he found indefensible, and like a dog which has lost a fight snarled away with his "tail between his legs." Although his pitiful attempts at recovery from AF's onslaughts were hardly manly, we should give him a measure of latitude for healing. I am sure he will be grateful. Besides, GS has the weight of Big MA to ontend with. So try to provide him with the soothing oil of forgiveness.
