Hi dproper,

You're having fun with your Bible.

Something is wrong with the board and sometimes the posts get mixed up. It's not the poster's fault but a glitch in the board's program.

Interesting interpretation of Luke, but Luke specifically refers to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE. Matthew and Mark's great tribulation is future and is the HOLOCAUST. Luke's "necessity on the land" is the 70CE event specifically.

The key verse is Luke 21:12. Luke begins with the same events for the last days as Matthew and Mark, but then it backtracks. Here are the two verses:

Luke 21:11 "..and there will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another pestilences and food shortages, and there will be fearful sights and from heaven great signs."

Now up until this point, Matthew, Mark and Luke are identical and are talking about the events of the last days and the last generation.

But then Luke introduces something that would happen before these things as Luke 21:12 says:

"But BEFORE all these things...

That is the one key verse. It is now introducing the events that would happen in 70CE as happening BEFORE the events in verse 11. So this is out of context.

Of note, Luke does not use the term "tribulation", he does not mention Daniel's prophecy being fulfilled. He doesn't mention the "disgusting thing causing desolation". And most importantly, he lets you know that the "appointed times of the nations would continue" with the Jews going into exile.

Matthew and Mark don't mention the "appointed times of the nations".

So Matthew and Mark refer to the "great tribulation" that was prophesied by Daniel, a ONE-TIME EVENT that only happens once. An event that was to shock the world. The 70CE destruction of Jerusalem was not that unique, after all, it had happened before. So it doesn't qualify. The HOLOCAUST has no problems qualifying.

So from verse 12 to verse 25 of Luke 21, are the verses that are out of context and happen "BEFORE" the signs mentioned in verse 11 which do refer to the same events as Matthew and Mark which occur during the time of the end.

But then at verse 25, it picks up again with what will happen just before the Messiah comes during the last days.

But the 70-CE event is paralleled to an extent in 1939 when "Judea" which was the exilic home of the Jews in Warsaw, Poland, was totally surrounded by the Nazi Army. That was the sign of the "disgusting thing in a holy place" which meant to flee from Warsaw, Poland and run to the mountains.

If you didn't, eventually the Warsaw ghetto was litterally walled off from the rest of the city and eventually liquidated in the death camps by the Nazis. The entire Jewish population of Warsaw, Poland. And that event was an event unique to the world. It is called the "worst event in human history."

So again, no where in Luke is there a mention of a "great tribulation" or Daniel's prophecy. And the events it talks about regarding Jerusalem relate to the 70CE destruction which did occur as prophesied, but as verse 12 notes, this segment is introduced as occurring "But BEFORE these things...", that is, before the things in verse 11 which relates to the last days.

Cheers,
Bibleman
