My surprise that you can accept the HOLOCAUST was the "great tribulation" is just a reflex to the phenomenon of this idea among Christians today. It used to be, in the early 1900's, even among witnesses, that the Jews returning to Palestine actually was considered a sign that the Messiah was arriving. Even as late as the mid-Rutherford Era the natural Jews played prominently in the concept of God's dealing with us during the last days.
And then suddenly for some reason, "Jewish" became like a bad word, an unmentionable! The Christian world, especially witnesses became so spiritual-Israel oriented.
In the book Harp of god, page 256, under "REGATHERING OF ISRAEL" it says (this was 1928):
Jesus furthermore said that the regathering of Israel to Palestine (Luke 21:24) would be one of the most conclusive proofs of his presence and of the end of the world. A full discussion of this point, together with many other points concerning the end of the world, is set forth in detail in the above mentioned booklet, Millions Now Living Will Never Die. Therein is shown conclusively that the prophecies have been fulfilled exactly on time; that Israel is now being regathered and is rebuilding Palestine exactly as the Lord foretold. Jesus said: "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption drawethnigh."--Luke 21:28.
But now, after the stragetic return of the Jews to Palestine by official partitioning of Palestine in 1947, it would seen that would more critically fulfill the official Jewish return to Palestine as their own nation. That concept, however, now figures a zero in current witness doctrine. They dropped that concept like they dropped the "1335 days" fulfilling the date of the Second Coming.
But once you actually recognize Israel and the Jews in these prophecies, it certainly is hard to ignore them in line with the great tribulation, especially since Daniel prophesied this before. This was the fulfillment of a major OT prophecy wherein the tribulation was specifically said to come about against "that nation", that is the Jews.
So that is why I was sort of surprised, since up until now there has been such a vaccuum of reluctance to reintroduce the natural Jews into the whole scheme of things of the last days.
Anyway.
I saw your daughter's post and replied what I thought. It was less complex than it seemed at first.

THE CANOPY:
As far as salt water goes. I don't know. But usually clouds are desalinated as they evaporate. So I'm presuming the canopy was water or some combined form of oxygen and hydrogen.
All I would think we can conclude is that God thought about all those things and provided for those things. I don't think a self-preparing canopy would be that hard.
For instance, back then the grounds had to be watered by underground streams. How intricate that must have been and we don't know how that worked. The canopy could have been cooled by circulating artic winds moving under the surface of the canopy. And since the sun likely melted some of the top layer of the canopy when it was facing the sun, any holes caused by meteors would have been filled in by the melting water and the artic winds would prevent water from falling to the Earth. ???
