Who cares what the "current understanding" is? It's your body. Do what you like. Who's going to see it anyway? I'm sure you don't bare your midriff at meetings and out in service. So it's a moot point and none of the congregation's business.
Personally, I like the way they look. If I had a nice flat tummy, I'd get one and show it off all the time!
