Folks,
The debate is back on!!!
A couple of days ago, I sent Greg Stafford the following e-mail;
| Greg / Alan, Is there any way that your debate can move forward? ... I am happy to act as intermediary for both of you if you so wish. Best regards, bJ |
In response to a later e-mail, Greg sent me this, which he has asked be to pass on to you. I reproduce his message in its entirety;
In a message dated 11/4/99 12:11:57 PM Pacific Standard Time, GS: The situation seems to be getting more complicated by the minute. Dear barJonah: Please post this to H20, if you don't mind. You might post it together with My decision to comply with the requests made regarding the extent of my participation on discussion boards and in chat rooms, for the time being, has nothing whatsoever to do with my strong desire to discuss the critical issues with AF and others. Neither does my decision to try and continue the discussion by using a different name have any affect on the present discussion. For the time being, I have simply chosen to do so without directly posting to the board. If the truth about such issues cannot be discussed, THEN I would have a serious problem with such requests, but as I understand it that is not the case. I fully expect a complete response from AF in a few weeks, as he said, or however long it takes him, given his schedule. Then I will offer my reply as soon as possible. I have no intention of ending the debate. In fact, I want to eventually move on to discuss other, more critical issues. AF is a capable person, and regardless of how strongly I disagree with him, I enjoy considering the strength of his arguments, for it ultimately will end up clarifying issues so as to allow others the opportunity to make an informed decision. I believe he was irresponsible for posting material from unknown "sources" about my relationship with Bethel without first confirming it with me, and I do believe he has misquoted my book and the Society's literature, but he disagrees. So it is up to those watching to decide. He also makes some good points, and he may even be right about certain key issues. But whether this can be proved beyond questioning is what I am concerned with, particular as it relates to the Truth and the Kingdom books, and the fall of Jerusalem. I would much rather explore these issues with him, and let others, by extension, do the same, so that those interested can be more aware of the problems and the solutions, to some of the problems Witnesses and others face. Best Regards, Greg |
If nothing else, I hope this message from Greg will give pause to some of those who were so quick to jump all over him in the last few days.
I, for one, will be looking forward to the remainder of this debate...
Regards,
barJonah
