There has been a Biblical breakthrough in the details of the water canopy suggested by Proverbs 8:28, for which I thank Cygnus for pointing me to a webpage on another isolated issue. I hadn't noticed this scripture before and some translations distort the meaning.
But Proverbs 8:28 talks about God making the clouds above "firm" which can be interpreted to mean that he froze the water above. Checking the Hebrew term elsewhere shows this is the only form of the term but a closely related version of the verb is found in several verses such as when Pharoah "hardened" his heart.
Here's the verse,
27 When he prepared the heavens I was there; when he decreed a circle upon the face of the watery deep, 28 when he made FIRM the cloud masses above..."
Please note the "circle" of the earth reference proving the earth was round.
But now it would seem we have another suggestion of exactly how the water canopy worked! And it works much better than any other concept now that we have this scripture, if this implies that the water canopy was "hardened" or made "firm", of course, condensing and then freezing it!
That works!
Remember, the arguments that the canopy was like a "bubble" around the earth. But that took a lot of external and internal pressure and it was thought the pressure at the surface would be too great. But then I thought the bubble might have been in orbit and that would have equalized the pressure. But this is even a better idea. A solid, clear as crystal glass canopy.
LOGISTICS:
The thick, gloomy clouds over the waters were separated into the upper sky and then caused to solidify as water, so that at this point it was like a bubble surrounding the earth. But then, when it was perfectly round and perfectly smooth, after being put into order to create the perfect surface pressure (note, depending upon the centrifugal force of the orbit, the surface pressure could go from intense pressure to a vacuum. So no problem controlling the exact atmostpheric pressure).
Anyway, once the buble was made around the earth, it was then FROZEN! And that's what made it stay up there after it was raised and condensed.
So the earth from outer space was really the "Earth under glass", which is exactly what a hot-house effect is. There was no rain at this time and the earth was watered through underground streams, etc.
Perpefect!
The ice canopy could have been stationary or it could have been orbiting! Likely orbiting and at a greatly increased surface speed than that of earth so that it didn't melt.
But this means, for the local flooding we've heard about that occurred in that area, those seven days after Noah went into the ark before it actually started raining could have been the time when the ice canopy was melting. This could have required intense heat from some place. Maybe a huge heat lamp Jehovah had.. (smile). Okay, a HUGE SOLAR FLARE! Intense radiation that melted the ice canopy over several days.
On the earth, therefore, it might have gotten intensely dark for seven days. The clouds forming would not let light through to the earth. So this was forboding of destruction. And even after it started to rain it rained in the dark! So they probably couldn't even find the ark even if they wanted to. In the meantime, Noah was protected from both the rain and radiation.
Of course, I guess he could have just melted it without reforming dark clouds and it just dripped down to the earth in huge sheets of water. Hmmmmm. I don't know. I like the seven days of darkness though!
Anyway, I agree that this had to be a local flood, confined to the Earth. There is nothing in the Bible that indicates the water enveloped the Moon or Mars, even though ice is found on Mars.
Likely, after the flood and the waters were reposited back into outer space much of the moisture in the solar system found its way to nearby Mars and caused orbiting meteors such as Halley's comet to become encased in ice.
So there you have it! The water canopy was made "firm" by FREEZING! No problem with that scenario for an astrophysicist, I'm sure!
Now REVIEW:
This addresses the question of 1) How the canopy was suspended and stayed up, and 2) The implied intense pressure if this was a bubble situation, which might not work anyway since you need both internal and external air pressure.
But an ice canopy works perfectly. It would let in light and create a global glass-house effect and still allow the Moon and Sun to be seen as well as some of the stars and planets. But after the canopy was dispersed, of course, the vision of the heavens became much more clear.
HA! HA! HA! Haaaaaaaaaaa!
The canopy was ICE! It works! It's ready!
