: I also have to wonder if a major server glitch ever wiped out the posts and we had to start over, then would I get blamed? Would everyone leave in disgust? People want reliability and they want accountability, and it all seems on my shoulders.
You're quite wrong here. People expect server glitches and hardware/software problems. People have come to expect from you and the other H2O admins a high level of integrity, for without it there is no credibility. Friend is saying that without this integrity he would leave in disgust. I would leave too.
: If people were serious then why doesn't someone have the posts from Greg?
I'll take that as authorization to repost Greg's embarrassing post. If your rogue admin leaves it up, then that will show that your admissions of his stupidity are sincere. If he deletes it, then his and your prejudices will be evident.
: Suppose an administrator out of desperation tried to delete pornography and accidentally deleted a topic by AF? I shudder to think. An honest mistake like that would probably get every accusation hurled.
It might generate a little flack but not the kind of flack that this extremely biased deletion has done. Biased? You bet! If I or J.H. or any other vocal critic did what Greg did and thoroughly embarrassed ourselves with our pompous dishonesty, would your rogue admin have deleted the problematic post? I think not.
Your using a pornographic post as a comparison is telling. There is no comparison whatsoever between such and one where a dishonest poster shoots himself in the head. I can see why an admin might panic and pull out all the stops to delete pornography (I don't agree that it's as big a deal as you folks make it, though; all websites are subject to spam) but to remove an embarrassing post? No way! It could be done with some thoughtfulness by getting in touch with several moderators, letting them do their jobs using normal moderator tools, and not panicking.
I do hope you and the other admins have learned a lesson from this.
To disprove my contentions all you have to do is get this rogue admin to post his/her reasons for the deletion in his/her own words, and to apologize if he/she cannot come up with a decent answer.
: ... Does not the FPP support his removal based on this exact set of circumstances, and is that basically not what happened?
Absolutely not! You have not even attempted to challenge my direct quote proving that the rogue admin violated the FPP by his/her deletion. If you can't demonstrate that my argument is wrong, then you have to admit that it's right, namely, that the rogue admin had absolutely no justification from the FPP to remove the posts, and did so only to insulate Greg from the consequences of his own foolish mistake.
You know Rick, I really hate these fuzzy references to "violations of the FPP" without specifics as to what the violations were. It's exactly the same as certain unthinking JW-apologists hollering "it's all lies" and never giving a single example.
