OHHH YES MR B. we can do much better than that.
The scripture that stated that Jesus would be in the grave 3 nights, also said that he would be there three days as well. Your scenario doesn't fit either.
The Passover was not a Sabbath. The first day of unleavened bread was a Sabbath. The Bible PLAINLY tells us that Jesus ate the Passover with his disciples, and the unbroken time line of events after that is recorded for us.
HOWEVER, let's examine for the sake of your argument that Jesus died on the 20th. We have a few Possibilities here:
A) Jesus was released and re-arrested on the 20th.
B) Jesus was detained somewhere for this period of time being held for a death sentence.
C) Jesus was placed under house arrest, and voluntarily returned for his crucifixion on the 20th.
NOW, one of the above scenarios has to fit in order for your theory to work. If you can cite me one Biblical scripture that E V E N HINTS at ONE of these, then I'll reevaluate my conclusions on this matter.
THE FACTS:
1) The Days of unleavened bread arrived. Luke 22:7
2) Jesus told his disciples to prepare the Passover for them, v8.
3) They ate the Passover together that evening beginning the 14th, v14.
4)They went to the garden where Jesus was later arrested and taken before the High Priest.v54
5)Jesus went before Pilate, 23:1.
6) Pilate sent him to Herod, v7.
7)Herod sent him back to Pilate, v11
NOTE: NO DAYS ELAPSED HERE, ONLY A MATTER OF HOURS.
8) They crucified him, V33
9) He was dead and burried before evening, v53
The Sabbath day they were preparing for was a SPECIAL day. This was a day where a Sabbath Fell on Sabbath. The 1st day of unleavened bread fell upon a Saturday, which was a regular Sabbath. Two Sabbaths in one you see. These were considered "SPECIAL DAYS". Ask any Jew. John 19:31.
NOW, MR. B, you might sway me with your long drawn out possibilities of knowing the actual date of the fall of Jerusalem. You might even lead me to believe you personally knew a descendant of King Rehoboam; but you can't change the plain record of something as important as the DEATH of our savior. It's recorded, preserved and done so by EYEWITNESSES. It's that plain and simple. That might be the problem, it's too simple.
Your thoughts???
