Some years ago, a brother was upset that "they
said the End would come in '75".
I corrected him by saying that the Society never
actually said such a thing, that they always used
a "maybe" or "could be" or whatever.
The fact remains that they misled people, deceived
them. People sold homes and made great sacrifices
believing this nonsense. The Society did make
statements about a "few years" or months
remaining. They encouraged the whole mess by
commission and ommission. They did everything
just an angstrom short of an actual, plain
naked false prophecy. Greg said he was disturbed
by things said from the platform. Good for him.
Too much of this reminds me of the holocaust
debate where some scholars claim they didn't
actually gas the Jews. Well, I don't care if
they died of malnutrition, typhoid, bullets,
hanging or suicide - the Nazis were morally
responsible for the fate of those people.
And so is the Society for the mess that their
speculation created, period.
