Well, I am (in)active, have not been out in service for over a year now, and my wife is a pioneer, so I'm not exactly sure if the question fits me or not.
One thing I do remember was when that particular Watchtower came out, a sister in my hall was overly joyous because of the new light. She was going up to everyone asking them if they had read the latest WT and also was pointing out the change in the Awake. At that time, I was still pretty much sedated by WT propaganda, but thought to myself that I needed to read my WT when I got home that night.
I had a hard time understanding our "new light" when I first read it. It did not make sense to me that for decades and as part of by pre-baptismal questions, we understood that the end would definitely come before 2000. I look back now and think that that was the first time I had ever questioned the Society's viewpoint on a doctrine. There was no room for change from our previous outlook on the "generation," or so I thought. And ever since I first had internet access, I gradually started finding out more and more of what I did not want to see. I have to admit that when I first came to H20, I posted in the City of Lights forum, not really knowing that this was actually the heavy hitting forum here. I tried to put up a defense of what I was taught, but the key word was exactly that, tried.
Many here, Cygnus coming to mind, asked me questions I had no clue how to answer, because I had no idea about the Society's past or even some doctrines that were taught out of harmony with the Bible. I have to thank the ones here, the ones labeled "apostates" by the Society, for showing myself and others information that would not have been available if not for the internet.
And I can only pray for the disfellowshipped (sister) in Houston right now who is in the ICU after losing her baby. Her blood count was down to 1.9 at one time and is up to around three right now. The HLC has visited with her and her family and they made the choice for no blood whatsoever. Only EPO has been used. The doctors still do not know if she will live or not. If anyone reading this knows who I am talking about please email me.
