Well, these days, as far as I can tell, parents don't make their kids wear items that give them allergic reactions, and they follow their kids through the neighborhood to protect them against dangerous people and to avoid the wrong houses.
Sounds to me like instead of Halloween being at fault, your parents are to blame for leaving you with a less than responsible babysitter.
