I'm not so sure. What the early "civilized" Americans did to the natives would be considered, by and large, barbaric these days. But most Americans would rather live here now than in, say, Afghanistan. Or Norway. ;-)
What some people I think fail to recognize is that the Watchtower Society has been in constant revision and reform since Rutherford took over. Some things have changed for the worse, for sure, but certainly you can recognize that many of the "false beginnings" of the Society have been weeded out over the years? Russell's pyradmidology and Miracle Wheat, Woodworth's anti-aluminum propaganda, and so forth, are interesting trivia, but certainly nothing that made me stand up and denounce the WTS as God's channel of communication in these critical last days.
This is just my opinion, of course. Yours isn't wrong by any means. However, I think that, for myself, seeing past the trees and examining the forest is what really counts. Heck, it's easy to dig up dirt on people and organizations. Everyone has some sort of skeleton in their closet. The issue is: have changes been made, and have they been positive changes? In many ways, the Watchtower has made positive changes. In many ways, it still has an urgent need to make more.
