The reason, the Society says, is that going to court will bring disgrace on the "christian" congregation.
The message is: We don't give a "#¤%& about you - as long as madure don't hit the fan - and people get to know what's going on inside the congs.
Without 2 or 3 witnesses - nobody will get convicted, and not disfellowshipped. Hence, the matter should be handled internally - and the authorities (police) will never know. Not even murder!
