With a little humility the JW blood doctrine could be abandoned over night.
It is a doctrine that orignated in the mind of a pharisaical pedant. I would really like to say that it is Satanic because it makes JW's look crazy.
At least some are hoping there will be a graceful way out of this problem. Perhaps technology will come up with an effective oxygen carrying substitute for whole blood. They could publish articles in the Watchtower on this wonderful discovery made possible by Jehovah. They might even portray themselves as aiding in the discovery of an effective blood substitute because of the strong stand they took on blood.
But if technology doesn't move fast enough they will eventually have to play the conscience card. But this isn't "alternative service". You can forget needless time spent in jail but how do you bring back a mother,father,son or daughter.
Honesty is the best policy. The Watchtower must come clean with this teaching. It must admit that it's blood doctrine never met the SUFFICIENT GROUNDS CRITERION especially since it sometimes results in loss of life. They must even allow the eating of blood-sausage as long as it is eaten in thanksgiving and doesn't stumble anyone.
Did I say honesty is the best policy? Maybe it's time for me to abandon this organization that has made it advantageous for me to be a hypocrite.
