I think you need to check out other verses that do not use the word "parousia" but instead use the verb "elthon" and related to the word "erchomai" which refer to the Lord's coming as a visible manifestation. "Erchomai" means "to come", "to appear", "to arrive". (Mt.26:64 erchomenon; John 14:3 erchomai; Rev.1:7 erchetai)
Jesus is omni-present according to Matt. 18:20, so he would always be "near". In Matt. 28:20 he says,"And surely I am with you always."
I never understood the WTS belief that he somehow turned his attention to the earth in 1914 or became invisibly present. I mean what had he been doing before 1914? What was he paying attention to? Was he just hanging around Heaven with the angels waitng for their big invisible return or what?
