Ros,

I would imagine that the GB will have a very good idea of what the reaction to the things you suggest might be. That is, in part, why they introduce changes and "new thoughts" in the weasely manner in which they do. Further, "going on the net" is unlikely to elicit the "typical" Dub reaction they would be seeking. Comments by idiots like Fred Hall and ABK are hardly typical, that is, of course, outside of a kindergarten.

I have to admit to being a bit perplexed by this GB character. My feeling is to go with the flow and see what happens without actually basing any decisions (or fostering any expectations) on what this guy says. Part of the JW psyche, even for many exJWs, is to let emotions get stirred up when the GB is rumored to have something afoot. Further, there is no compelling reason to help the WTS reform itself since any reform effected might simply be a way to dupe people more subtly into continuing to serve the Society's interests. In this '1' has a point. Thus, their exists a strong argument to, if anything, turn up the heat in the face of promised reform.

So, I agree; give it a fair chance but the onus is on this GB character to demonstrate that he means business. He promises to do that. Personally I find his "open letter" odd in that, if he were serious about what he is doing, he could have stated that he had had mailed a typewritten copy of the letter to the 'body' together with the statement that he was publishing it on the internet. Maybe he has or maybe there are other circumstances to consider. But to assume that the GB will somehow get a copy is somewhat peculiar. That is, of course, unless he knows the GB is already aware of his postings.

Whatever happens, I think that you are doing the only thing you possibly can reasonably do under the circumstances. If it goes awry or is a put up job it will not be your responsibility.

Gedanken
