You're absolutely right!!! And the Society knew they had an abundant supply of idiots that would react whole-heartedly to their[Society's]campaign to push the 1975 thing for all it's worth. For about ten years - mid-60s-1975, the Society kept fuelling the expectations ever-increasingly. As I remember it, much care was taken by the Society to 'remind' people that 1975 wasn't an exact prediction, but it would surely be within "months" of that date, or a "few short years at best".
The Society should admit the lion's share of the blame for all of the expectations concerning 1975, for it was the Society who created the speculation in the first place and kept it well-fuelled via assembly and convention themes and numerous articles in the Watchtower and other publications.
Of course, back in the late 60s-early seventies, this was considered 'New Light'- you know that stuff that just KEEPS GETTING BRIGHTER!!! No wonder the dubs reacted the way they did! After all, the FDS wouldn't be advising people to sell their homes and businesses to full-time pioneer if there was still at least half a century to go, would they? That wouldn't be very faithful OR discreet, now would it?
Good night!!!
