You assume a lot here. You assume that I don't deal with reality because I believe in God. I am fully aware of how unpleasant reality can be and sometimes I face it and sometimes I don't. The same can be said for most people regardless of what they believe in.
Plenty of people close themselves off to the reality of life. Driving nice cars and eating rich food never thinking of the thousands that are starving everyday. There are many charities in this world including ones run by Christians. These people are facing the reality of what needs to be done. Really seeing the suffering people in this world and finding ways to help them is facing reality. Knowing that what you can give is not enough to help everyone but realising that you can make a difference by helping a few is facing reality.
I can fully understand why people believe in aliens even if I don't believe it myself. There is a lot more reason to believe in aliens than there is to believe in fairies and unicorns. People have claimed to seen space ships..etc, etc. I personally don't know of anyone who would say that they believe in unicorns and fairies.
There are plenty of people who make sincere claims to have experienced God. This while not being conclusive proof certainly lays the foundation for the idea that "there's more to this than just a story." Surely you can see the difference between God and a fairy story.
