Get a grip, Rick! I worry alot about you. (So what else is new?)
:Java Applet that threatens to put a virus on their computer (THEN WIPE OUT THE FAT TABLE OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM), and know what it did to their system?
:It crashed their Netscape program! They ran a virus check without detecting any virus, but said their system seems "buggy."
Was their FAT table ACTUALLY wiped out? Do they have the software to know if it was wiped out? Or not? Does it boot up now? If not, is it because the FAT table was wiped out? Or is there another reason?
Do you know ANYTHING ABOUT VIRUSES? If you did, you wouldn't have made your post so dramatic. For the most part, they don't exist, and when they do they are benign. Virus doomsday promoters who also happen to be sellers of virus software programs (Norton, McAffie, et. al.) "warn" people about those pesky viruses and have the highest profiles in "warning" people about the NEXT flavor a virus might come in. Guess who promotes the scare about them? People with a VESTED interest in promoting them as a scare for the dumb masses, that's who. People who SELL virus-protection software, that's who. All the virus scares since 1981 when I started playing in this game have been vastly over-promoted and the damage done has been slight, percentage-wise.
"They" (whoever in the heck "they" are) said that their system "seems buggy" A non-assertion-assertion if I ever saw one. Is it, or isn't it "buggy"? "Seems" is in the fuzzy world of words. Is their system buggy or not? If yes, then what other possibilities for that are there? If no, then the whole assertion is nonsense. "Seems?" Classic Watchtower Speak(tm).
:I cannot believe you meant it, or else I wouldn't simply warn you.
Nonsense. You're dealing with anecdotal stuff and you haven't presented ANY evidence that the person who had problems could trace it to 5GJW's link.
If a hundred posters and lurkers had that problem, then maybe the evidence would be there. They didn't. Or at least, they haven't reported it to you or anyone else in here.
I certainly didn't and I clicked on that link.
You are (sadly enough) reactive, without collecting enough evidence to validate your reaction.
Farkel, who is out of split-pea soup at this moment, but could use some...
