I've got a friend who broke into the tunnels in Salt Lake City. He says that they are extensive, well lit, and an excellent place to play Dungeons and Dragons late at night. He gave me directions to one of the openings, if I'm ever in Mormontown again. I consider him to be quite reliable, and believe that these tunnels are there.
