My point is this: since it was SO strident a message, and went way beyond anything ever said in the Watchtower - which habitually used circumspect, future-deniable language - was this message just something that was cooked up locally by the Circuit brothers (I live in London, England) - or does anyone else remember the same kind of thing being said in their circuits?

I lived in New England until 74, and the very same message was being pushed back then. The same thing was being pushed where we moved to, so it WAS NOT a local thing, believe me.
I had good friends before I became a JW, and this couple had told me that this was such a bunch of hogwash, and on New Year's Day, 1976, they said they would expect a phone call and an admission that I had been badly misled in this religion.
Needless to say, it never happened, I never called, and I"dropped" them as friends because they weren't JWs. This incident still sticks in my mind..plus the fact they were a heck of a lot more kind to ME than I was to them.
