Let me ask you, are Jehovah's Witnesses an offshoot of some church? The answer may surprise some of you. First let's look at what the JW's say in the Reasoning Book below: 1985, 1989 Reasoning Book pg. 202, parag 1 Are Jehovah's Witnesses a Cult? Some define sect to mean a group that has broken away from an established religion. Others apply the term to a group that follows a particular human leader or teacher. The term is usually used in a derogatory way.
Now, let's take a close look at my first underscored sentence …."are not an offshoot of some church"…. This is an outright lie! The Jehovah's Witnesses are a direct descendant of the Adventists. Let's now take a look at their roots, which I have outlined below:
(Millerite's)
William Miller (originally a Baptist preacher)
Founder of the Millerites
Preaching the end of the world 1843, 1844
(Advent Christian church Seventh-day Adventists Second Adventist groups)
[As a result of Mr. Miller's failed prophesies the Millerites's group faded into obscurity but not until several splinter groups emerged, Advent Christian Church, Seventh-Day Adventists, Second Adventist Group.
Publisher George Storrs
George Storrs, Brooklyn, New York, Publisher of the Bible Examiner and forming the group "Life and Advent Union" and in 1850's published a book titled The Watch Tower. Promoting the year1870 as the Second Coming.
Publisher Nelson H. Barbour
Nelson H. Barbour, Rochester New York, Publisher of the periodical titled Herald of the Morning. Promoting 1873 or 1874 as the year(s) of the time of the end.
Founder of the Jehovah's Witness Charles Taze Russell
Charles Taze Russell, born February 16, 1852. Raised Presbyterian. Joined a local Congregational church. Joined the Second Adventists Allegheny, PA . Fostered in the sect by George Stetson (pastor Advent Christian church) and George Storrs Publisher of the Bible Exaimer.
January 1876 Russell met another Adventist group that received their spiritually food from a magazine titled Herald of the Morning published by Nelson H. Barbour. Completely taken with the Group's interruptions, Russell financially backed the faltering magazine, Herald of the Morning.
1879 Russell severed ties with Barbour and started another magazine titled Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence. And of course the rest is history.
What's going on here? Why do the J'dubs refuse to recognize their own ancestery (so to speak)? It is because the Jehovah's Witnesses are also a 'splinter group'. So, I surmise from the WTBTS's documented statement, "Jehovah's Witnesses are not an offshoot of some church" is an out-and-out lie printed by the Watchtower Publishing empire. Your thoughts?
Take a peek at this. Let's examine this quote from the 1993 Proclaimer Book :
Chapter 10
Growing in Accurate Knowledge of the Truth
"JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES have not set out to introduce new doctrines, a new way of worship, a new religion
. Instead, their modern-day history reflects conscientious effort to teach what is found in the Bible, the inspired Word of God. They point to it as the basis for all their beliefs and their way of life. Instead of developing beliefs that reflect the permissive trends of the modern world, they have sought to conform ever more closely to the Biblical teachings and practices of first-century Christianity."I ask you, what about 1914 doctrine? Was it not the foundation of the JW's doctrinal belief that was revised in 1995? What about the blood issue? Consider this statement from the Live Forever Book page 216 " so too abstaining from blood means not taking it into your body at all." Can you explain why the WTS now permits the use of blood products like albumin, EPO, blood serums/Immunoglobulins, and hemophiliac treatments (clotting factors VII & IX) since these are clearly taken to sustain life? How can this honestly be considered as abstaining from blood?
Yes folks, even a partial blind man can clearly detect a series of lies, inconsistencies, misrepresentations that have been perpetuated throughout the last 120-year history of this cult. Should you not examine the history of this destructive religion? I'll leave you with this article from the 1955 Watchtower:
W55 2/15 Choosing the one right religion
Every Catholic, every Baptist, every Methodist, every Anglican, everyone of whatever religion should think his religion is the right religion. It is not conceit to think so; it would be hypocrisy to think otherwise, to claim to believe what we actually do not believe. But our belief should have solid basis, not on religious leaders, not on religious systems, but on the Bible. We should make sure that our religion speaks according 'to the law and the testimony' before we cling to it: "Make sure of all things; hold fast to what is right." If we learn that our religion is teaching what is not right, we should let go of that religion. The above elimination dropped religions on the basis of one false doctrine only, but actually each of those false ones falls on many counts. The foregoing is only a foretaste of evidence; further Scriptural investigation will provide overwhelming confirmation.-1 Thess. 5:21, NW.
Bottom line? Be afraid--very afraid.
