As you can see from our
calendar of events
, things have been hopping, although in December, everything came to a complete stop for a few weeks. On December 16th, Jon was diagnosed with cancer. It was a complete shock, but after we heard the news, we kicked into high gear of seeing doctors, learning as much as we could and getting Jon ready for surgery, which was scheduled for one week later.
Jon's parents, Kristin's parents and Jon's brother and sister-in-law all came into town to help out before, during and after Jon's surgery. It was great to have such a great family support system. In addition, our Orlando-based support system kicked in as well, with two friends who are doctors (Jeff and Sharon) supplying us with great medical connections, advice and care, and four sets of friends (Debbie and Jeff, Susan and Scott, Alyson and Jason and Leah and Damon) providing us with great friendship and food just after Jon's surgery. With that and Kristin's mother's world-famous lasagna and eggplant parmesian, we didn't have to cook for a week!
Jon healed very quickly and his doctor gave him the go ahead to keep our travel plans with Jon's cousins, Josh and Jenn, and a few of their long-time friends in New Orleans. We had a great time, after such a dark moment. We ended up spending New Year's Eve over Burbon Street at a hall that had dinner, dancing and a balcony over all of the action. Jon and Kristin definitely saw many interesting sights and even threw beads out for a few flashes. The place was crazy, with thousands of people up and down Burbon Street enjoying the hazy night. We felt like we were on top of the world as we looked up and down the steet. We've included a few picures for you to see.
