This was a product
studio I took during my third semester at CCS. Honda R&D of Torrance,
California sponsored the project and made frequent trips to see our work
in progress. This design is a balance between mechanical details
and fluid motion. I wanted to design a sportbike that flowed gracefully
from front to back. One of my main influences was the 1948 Indian
Chief. The proposal shown here is very much a heritage design; it
acknowledges the past, but at the same time looks toward the future with
new proportions and thick-to-thin variance in the body.
The
powerplant is a 72 degree v-twin which is mounted transverse. Up
front is a traditional fork, with a beefed-up size to convey an image of
strength.
It was this particular
project which paved the way for my entry into the transportation design
program.
