Breaking News
The Jefferson West FFA Chapter has had huge success this
past semester with several activities. In a one month span our chapter has
secured four top three team finishes, two first place finishes, two first place
individuals and thirteen top ten individuals. Here is how the recent
competitions have rounded out:
Hillsboro FFA Dairy Cattle Invitational: The
A-team placed first in the contest with having all four team members score over
400 points. The team defeated 2nd place by a total of 137 points.
Individual lacings are as follows: Amanda Hermann-1st, John Bergin-3rd,
Jamie Hermann-4th, Ross Myers-6th
The Freshman team also did quite well with a second place
finish. Congrats to Freshman Jenna Petesch who scored a 48 on one of her
reasons. Individual placings are as follows: Sam Myers-5th, Jenna
Petesch-7th, Jolie VanPetten-12th.
NED FFA Ag Sales: Again Ag Sales took home
another plaque from district competition, but also secured half of the medals at
district contest. With John Bergin as their coach the “A” team won a fitting
first place finish, beating 2nd place by almost 60 points. Melissa
Bigham was 1st with a total of 192 points. Ashton Becker finished 3rd
and John Bergin finished 4th.
The “B” comprised of Jenna Petesch, John Swank and
Jolie VanPetten place 4th. Jolie VanPetten took individual honors
with 3rd place.
The Ag Sales team of John Bergin, Ashton Becker, Melissa
Bigham and Jolie VanPetten will be traveling to State CDE’s on May 4th.
The lowest state finishing for the chapter in the past few years was 7th
place, highlighted by a 2nd place finish in 2002. This year’s team
looks forward to capitalize on their success. Each team member will be walking
into state competition bearing Ag Sales medals from past district and state
contests.
Poultry Juding: John Bergin took 2nd
individually at the A team division and Jenna Petesch took 5th at the
B team level. The B team of Jenna, Levi Campbell, Sam Myers and Ally Scott took
4th.
Ag Mechanics: Ross Myers took 5th
while the A team of Ross, Andy Bell, Derek Pollom and Dan Bigham took 3rd.
Kyle Tyler finished right outside of the B team top ten.
