FK Austria's league games 2000/2001:                                                        home

0-1 (3rd min.) Ernst DOSPEL
1-1 (79th min.) Tomislav Kocijan

4) AUSTRIA 2 - 1 SV Ried (5th August 2000)
Att.: 4127
0-1 (3rd min.) Muhammet Akagündüz
1-1 (50th min.) Michael WAGNER
2-1 (74th min.) Michael WAGNER

This postponed game turned out to be harder than expected. Ried started brightly with an early goal by Akagündüz, a player coming from our youth section, who was given to Ried to secure the deal with new coach Heinz Hochhauser and is now watched by big clubs like Galatasaray...
Following this early goal, Ried played very defensively, causing lots of problems for our strikers. Austria completely dominated the game, but Ried was always dangerous in their counter attacks and it lasted until minute 50 to score the first goal. Michael Wagner, our creativemanin midfield, converted a pass inside the penalty area.
The following pressure from Austria resulted in a number of chances, but - as always - our strikers gave away the best opportunities. So we needed a long range shot from star defender and ex-LeedsUnited player Martin Hiden that hit the post and was converted by MichaelWagner.
Not a brilliant display from our side, but whocares afterwards?

5) FC Tirol 0 - 2 AUSTRIA
Att.: 6418

6) Austria 3 - 1 SV Salzburg
Att.: 6074

7) Rapid 1 - 1 AUSTRIA
Att.: 14660
1-0 (23rd min.) Zeljko Radovic
1-1 (90th min.) Dirk-Jan DERKSEN

The first Viennese derby of the season. Despiteplayingat Rapids Gerhard Hanappi-ground, we completely dominated the game, creatinga dozen of great chances.
But the luck-ridden side from Hütteldorf tookthelead. To be honest, it was a beautiful goal by Radovic after neat workfromR. Wagner. The goal was a shock for the team, but the boys fought backinunusual style.
The second half was power-play by Austria, but thegoddessFortuna and a great Ladi Maier in Rapids goal denied our strikersthe deservedsuccess.
But then, in minute 92, the violet part of the stadium exploded: Our Dutchman Dirk Jan Derksen headed the ball into the left corner of Maier's goal - and Rapid's fans looked miserable after the game......

8) AUSTRIA 5 - 0 LASK
Att.: 4017

9) SW Bregenz 2 - 1 AUSTRIA
Att.: 4184
The replayed game. We lost through an own goal in the last minute......

10) AUSTRIA 2 - 1 SW Bregenz
Att.: 5111

11) GAK 1 - 0 AUSTRIA (17th September 2000)
Att.: 5555
1-0 (23rd min.) Adi Hütter
What a game! Austria came as clear favourites to the Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium, playing in good form against a seriously decimated GAK side. Austria played not bad, but horrendously ineffective and lost to a long range shot by midfielder Hütter. Our boys could have scored 6 or 7 goals - but this is FK Austria......

12) AUSTRIA 0 - 0 Admira/Wacker Mödling
Att.: 4327

13) AUSTRIA 1 - 2 Sturm Graz
Att.: 6418

14) SV Ried 1 - 3 AUSTRIA (14th October 2000)
Att.: 3870
0-1 (21st min.) Christian MAYRLEB

0-3 (41st min.) Ernst DOSPEL
1-3 (65th min.) Herwig Drechsel

15) AUSTRIA 0 - 2 FC Tirol (22nd October 2000)
Att.: 5848
0-1 (10th min.) Radoslav Gilewicz
0-2 (74th min.) Zoran Barisic

A game full of dirty episodes. Austria, playingoneof their weakest games this years, lost to mediocre FC Tirol which hada soliddefence and effective counter attacks. But the highlight of the matchwasthe lastengagement of Patrick Jezek, the 3 million $ man,who lost a ballin a dribblingwhichallowed FC Tirol to score the 0-1. "Jezek out"- shoutsresulted in gesturesagainst the West Stand.... Coach Hochhausertook thelittle Czech off the pitchafter 20 minutes.

16) SV Salzburg 2 - 0 AUSTRIA
Att.: 6473

17) AUSTRIA 3 - 2 Rapid (1st November 2000)
Att.: 11103

18) LASK 1 - 3 AUSTRIA (4th November 2000)
Att.: 3716

19) AUSTRIA 1 - 0 Sturm Graz (12th November 2000)
Att.: 7945
1-0 (3rd min.) Marko TOPIC

A lucky win against the best side in Austria. Striker Topic used an early blunder of Sturms defence for an easy goal, which wasfollowed by a good first half and and a mediocre second half which Sturm dominated, but the Grazer found no way behind our strong defence(especially Hiden and young Paul Scharner played great).

20) Admira/Wacker Mödling 1 - 0 AUSTRIA (18th November 2000)
Att.: 2508
No comment.

21) AUSTRIA 1 - 1 SV Salzburg (26th November 2000)
Att.: 5023
1-0 (43rd min.) Heimo Pfeifenberger (own goal)
1-1 (50th minute) Rene Aufhauser

A meeting between two teams in violet and the most interesting game of the week, therefore shown on national TV.
Before the game, one of the all-time greats of Austrian soccer, Josef "Pepi" Argauer, a former national coach and the most important scout in our history, celebrated his 90th birthday. Standing ovations ofthewhole stadium created a intimate atmosphere before the game.
The game itself was lousy. Austrias offensive gamewasgruesome, and Salzburg, playing the best flat-back-four in Austria, provedto be a very difficult opponent. A series of mistakes in our defence andmidfieldgave Salzburg 2 or 3 good chances, but Wolfgang Knaller wa soutstanding. Then,in minute43 and against the run of play, Austria took the lead. PaulScharnerjumpedinto Salzburgs 'keeper Safar (he had an excellent game) andthe ballwas deflected by Heimo Pfeifenbergers thigh into the net. An irregulargoal.
The second half began wih some good offensive playfromAustria and - the equaliser. Salzburg, which had not a single chanceduringthe second 45 minutes, got a free-kick, which Knaller could only parrybeforethe feet of some Salzburger - Aufhauser made it 1-1.
The rest of the game saw some serious chances for Austria, but even the second yellow card for Salzburgs Silberberger was to no help - Safar made some fine savings and Salzburg held on for one point. Good for Salzburg - bad for us.

22) SV Ried 0 - 0 AUSTRIA
Att.: 2672

Our severely depleted team (minus Hiden, Wohlfahrt, Dospel, Datoru, Derksen, Topic) dominated -again- but lacked -again- firepower upfront. A relatevely dull game which Austria should have won, but out-of-form striker Christian Mayrleb couldnt use his 2 best chances. Still, as leaders FC Tirol lost at Graz, Austria are "just" 6 points behind the new leaders, Fortuna Hütteldorf.

23)AUSTRIA 2 - 0 Rapid (4th March 2001)
Att.: 10260
1-0 (25th min.) Christian MAYRLEB
2-0 (55th min.) Jürgen LEITNER

The eagerly awaited match turned out to be real fightwithout fluent passing or great technical highlights. It was the worst derbyof the season. Still, FK Austria deserved the win.

The first half started fairly even with a fine header by Rapids Lagonikakis and a good individual run by the surprisingly influential Christian Prosenik, who then had a good dribbling and produced a great cross which was headed in by Christian Mayrleb from the far post. After that Rapid tried to create some pressure, but the Hüttldorfers only managed some long range shots, while FK Austria had some good scenes shortly before the break.

The second half brought a very good scene by Mayrleb who set up for Janssen, but the Belgian striker came a bit too late. In the 55th minute the whole stadium couldnt trust their eyes. Our hard man in midfield, Jürgen Leitner, scored the 2-0 with a fine shot from the edge of the box, after turning around the green defender. Shortly after the goal, Jochen Janssen had his best scene and was fouled inside the box - the clearest of penalties, which referee Plautz didnt give to FK Austria. Janssen missedanother good chance, before Rapids Lagonikakis was sent off for a secondbookableoffence.
The last quarter of the game was relatively dull, with Rapid unable to threaten our goal and our team satisfied with the two-goal lead.

24) Bregenz 2 - 1 AUSTRIA
Att.: 3160
1-0 Golemac
2-0 Posavec
2-1(74th min.) Fernando Ariel TROYANSKY
As expected, a hard game against one of the league's minnows. Our team controlled the match, but rarely threatened Winde's goal. Unlucky goals ( a free kick and a counter attack) forced the boys to create some pressure and our new Argentine headed our goal after a corner by Sarac, still we lost important points....

25) FK AUSTRIA 0 - 1 GAK
Att.: 3856
0-1 Hiden (own goal)
We played badly, we made an own goal, we hadbad luck, we had a horrendous ref, we had Varesanovic sent off - we lost.

26) FC Tirol 1 - 2 FK AUSTRIA
Att.: 16280
1-0 Gilewicz
1-1 (59th min.) Sarac
1-2 (72nd min.) Mayrleb
The leader against the third placed team: Our team started without several key players and came under heavy pressure right from the start. Tirol took the lead after 10 minutes and could easily have scored more goals, but thanks to an incredible Franz Wohlfahrt, who saved a penalty by Baur, FK Austria stood firm and had 2 good chances, even when Hiden was sent off for insulting the ref.
In the second half, manager changed the team and ur 10 man fought back in dramatic style. Yugoslav left-wing Dragan Sarac converted a free-kick and Tirol got nervous. When Haan brought Topic for Janssen, the Bosnian international started to create turmoil among Tirol's defence and set up Mayrlebs 2-1.The final phase of the match saw further pressure by Tirol and some chancesto make it 3-1, but neither side could score. FK Austria is the first teamto win at Tirol's new stadium!

27) LASK 4 - 1 FK AUSTRIA
Att.: 5323
1-0 Frigard
2-0 Brenner
3-0 Kiesenebner
4-0 Frigard
4-1 Janssen (73rd min.)
A decimated and not fully motivated side lost against a LASK team playing their best game of the season. The only highlight: Belgian striker Jochen Janssen scored his first goal in the Austrian Bundesliga.

28) FK AUSTRIA 3 - 1 LASK
Att.: 3375
1-0 Topic
2-0 Topic
2-1 Troyansky (own goal)
3-1 Grassler (own goal)
A good game played in front of the lowest crowd this season. As expected, our team had problems inside the first 15 minutes, when the strong side from Linz had two excellent chances, which the outstanding Wohlfahrt could save. After 20 minutes, our team started to gain control over the match and wasted some very good opportunities. Especially Topic was unlucky when he hit the post after a wonderful combination involving Janssen, Perovic and Rost. Shortly before halftime, Topic made it 1-0. He blasted a half-volley from 20m into the right corner.
The second half began with FK Austria controlling the match and expanding the lead with a wonderful shot by Topic after a good combination with Perovic. 1 minute later, Troyansky made an own goal, which Grassler cancelled out10 minutes later with another own goal.

29) Sturm 2 - 0 FK AUSTRIA
Att.: 8502
1-0 Amoah
2-0 Vastic
0-0 should have been the result of this important clash. Both teams couldnt impress, with Sturm doing more for the match during the first half and FK Austria the more dangerous team in the second half. The main difference:Sturm took their chances and we didnt, especially Derksen. The loss meansthat FK Austria slips out of the top 3. 30)

30) Austria 2 - 0 Admira
Att.: 3126
1-0 (22nd min.) Ledwon
2-0 (45th min.) Janssen
Sometimes, football is a quite surrealistic game. The ref seems like a candidate in a quiz show, your own team should thrash the (very weak) opponent anddoesnt, the worst player on the pitch plays the whole match...
FK Austria controlled the first half, but it had to be a hammer of a free-kick by Adam Ledwon to take the lead. The rest of the first half saw some other good chances for FAK, but thanks to ref Birgmann, who surprisingly disallowed a goal by Mayrleb it lasted until minute 45 to make it 2-0: Jochen Janssen made the goal after great work by fellow strikers Topic and Mayrleb.
After the break, the team had some good 15 minutes, but started to lose determination after 60 minutes. Therefore, the biggest part of the second half consisted of awful football. Still, FK Austria had two shots hitting the post.

31) Salzburg 4 - 1 FK Austria
Att.: 4746
1-0 (20th) Sigthorsson
1-1 (26th) Marko TOPIC
2-1 (37th) Carcamo
3-1 (47th) Kitzbichler
4-1 (81st) Kitzbichler
A catastrophy - Topic's wonderful goal (the most beautiful goal in Austria this season) being the only highlight for FAK.

32) FK Austria 1 - 1 Ried
Att.: 3786
1-0 (40th) Perovic
1-1 (77th) Akagündüz
A big flop again. Austria controlled the match for an hour, with Serb offensive midfielder Perovic scoring his first goal. After 60 minutes, the team again stopped to run and to fight and Ried came to an easy equaliser - scored by Austria-breed striker Akagündüz.

33) Rapid 2 - 0 FAK
Att: 12748
Goals by Ratajczyk and Wallner
If you can't beat Rapid, you are in sorry shape. And we were....

34) FAK 1-1 Bregenz
Att.: 3608
1-0 (5th) Christian MAYRLEB
1-1 (70th) Mattle

35) GAK 2-0 FAK
Att.: 3959

36)FAK 0-2 Tirol
