Over 500 enteries on the subject of ghosts and hauntings.  Includes actual cases and hoaxes: ghosts, spirits, psychic abilities, and related topics.

More than 600 enteries covering cases of vampirism and lycanthropy from over the wold.  Includes writers, films, and famous monsters from these mediums; superstitions on thr e orgins of these craetures and how to dispose of them; physical and mental disorders associsted with vampires and werecreatures; games and comics; and other creatures of myth, lore, and cryptozoology such as chupabaras, Mothman, and revenants.

______.  The Encyclopedia of Witches and Witchcraft, 2nd  Ed.  New York: Checkmark Books, 2000.

Over 500 enteries covering the history of witchxcraft and magic from ancient to modern times; actual pracyioners and literary sorcerers, in addition to superstitions, demons, fairies, and other related topics.

Mysteries of the Unknown. Editors of Time-Life Books. New York: Quality Paperbackbook Club, 1997.

Although this book does not deal with literature, it does deal with subject matter that is often seen in speculative fiction and proves to be a wonderful research source. The book covers a wide range of topics, ranging from extraterrestrials to cryptozoology to modern witchcraft.   It includes informative articles on ghosts, out-of-body experiences, astrology and tarot reading, witchcraft, shapeshifters, vampirism, mind over matter, the Yeti and the Saquatch, and other related subjects. This book is not only a vast research source but also a fascinating reading experience. Highly recommended.

American Society for Psychial Research

The American Society for Psychical Research is the oldest psychical research organization in the United States. For more than a century, the ASPR has supported the scientific investigation of extraordinary or as yet unexplained phenomena that have been called psychic or paranormal. The ASPR was founded in 1885 by a distinguished group of scholars who shared the courage and vision to explore the uncharted realms of human consciousness, among them renowned Harvard psychologist and Professor of Philosophy, William James.

An organization for the scientific research of pschic phenomenea.

International Fortean Organization (INFO)

An organization dedicated to the investigation of cryptozoology and other paranormal anomolies.

Koestler Parapsychology Unit

The unit is part of the psychology department at Edinburgh University. The aim is to conduct systematic and responsible research into the capacity attributed to some individuals to interact with their environment by means other than those currently understood by the scientific community.

SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence)

SETI@home is a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data. Has scientific links and more.  Interesting.

Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained (SITU), P.O. Box 265, Little Silver, New Jersey 07739.

Founded in 1965 by Ivan T. Sanderson, SITU studies unexplained events that orthodox science does not (or will not) investigate. SITU maintains reference files which include original reports, newspaper and other clipping correspondence, audio tapes, films, photographs, drawings, maps, etc. Copies of these items a available to members only. Membership fees include the magazine Pursuit, which is published regularly.
