We moved to Charlie One from Firebase Barbara, which was to the west and south, just south of Khe Sanh and west of Quang Tri.  When I was there in 1970, the siege of Khe Sanh was long over.  

FB Barbara was not too far south of Khe Sanh.  It was plotted on our charts as within range of our artillery.  Of course, with 175 mm guns, this could have been about 20 miles.  The other bases where I served are also marked in yellow below.  I saw Bob Hope at Phu Bai on Christmas Day 1970.
