goneblind has found those missing elements in lead singer/rhythm guitarist, John Curry, who provides lyrics touching on fear, isolation, betrayal, and longing. Unlike most of his contemporaries, Curry has a natural knack for writing classic pop hooks that could almost get them lumped in with the "alternative" rock set, if it weren't for the fact that goneblind is so, well ... heavy.
Mark Archer and Mitch Burman lay down a thick, solid foundation as the band's rhythm section. Archer, on drums, plays with an intensity that few have these days. Each hit from his drumsticks seems like it might be his last, as if his kit were going to crumble under his weight. Burman, the bassist, with his tough-guy demeanor, is a consistent player, strong and powerful, no-frills, right in the pocket.
Adding the finishing touch is lead guitarist, Aristides. Taking his foundations from the riff heavy world of post-hardcore bands like Quicksand and Helmet, Aristides adds the lush textures found in the new crop of emo bands such as JimmyEatWorld and Knapsack. He is a more than capable player who avoids being too flashy and sticks to what works best for the song.
In the four years they have been together, goneblind has captured an ever-expanding legion of devoted fans playing shows in hometown Houston and cities across Texas. From '97 to '01, The Houston Press nominated goneblind for Best Hard Rock Band. The band continues traveling to Los Angeles and New York City to showcase in front of interested record labels and industry folks.
