1. Why is employee motivation important in the creation of a corporate culture where people are performing at a high level?

Valassis Communication top management believe that the key to success is its culture. Its strives to be a fun place to work, which is illustrated by its being named by Fortune to its Top 100 Best Companies to work for. The motivational theories used are goal setting theory and reinforcement theory through rewards and recognition for high levels of performance. Valassis also uses two-factor theory by creating challenging jobs.

 

2. What type of motivation strategies, reward and recognition systems are necessary to create a performance-driven corporate culture?

Valassis philosophy is to make all employees feel like owners of the company. As owners they will do their best to make the company a success, as they benefit directly as well.

                The total performance plan includes:

·         Champion pay, immediate cash bonuses ($50 to over $5,000) for doing an outstanding job.

·         Stock purchasing, to provide ownership

·         Profit sharing and Team Achievement Dividends, employees get bonuses when Valassis does well.

·         Fringe Benefits and Base Salary, common to other organizations.
