America is a land of many cultures and religious beliefs.  America is a relatively young country and the makeup of its people is always changing.  To do a comprehensive study of the religions of America, I think it would be best to take a genealogical approach.  By this I mean that to understand the current religious conditions we must investigate where they have come from.  This is the land of fusion.  You go to restaurants that specialize in any combination of a number of cooking styles.  Euro-Asian, Mexi-Cali, French-Vietnamese, the list goes on.  Religion in America is quite the same.  With no strong, unifying force like a state church, the spiritual face of America is a "hodge-podge".  By studying the growth and development of American religion in this manner, we can learn not only how it affects us today and yesterday, but how cultural conditions and interactions effect its development.
