Government interrupts Election Commissioner's effort to held free and fair election

CID arrested the person who took the printing order of the secret stickers, which were designed by the election commissioners department. These stickers were intended to use to stick on ballet papers in order to prevent them from being fraud. Election commissioner and his department was reluctant to print these stickers from the Government press due to the previous experience of founding fraud ballet papers in previous elections. After this government interruption, the secrecy of the sticker was lost. Meanwhile, government is now accusing Election commissioner saying that he was trying to corrupt the election. Government media has begun a propaganda mission to pass this message to the people. Also, SLFP secretary accused Election commissioner and asked the Election commissioner to take a decision on himself and his position. In a news conference he alleged that the printing of stickers give a negative results. Since the Commissioner is responsible of holding free and fair election he issued a statement that it is duty to take every action to held free and fair election. He said that he decided to place stickers on polling card in order to prevent any fraud and dispel fears in the mind of the voters and the contestants Now government is launching a conspiracy to remove the election commissioner in order to clear the way to have their authority over election department. They are planning to file a case against commissioner and by getting help from government supporting law officials remove the commissioner. Opposition parties and many civil organizations are organizing against this conspiracy. JVP had issued a press release about this government conspiracy on 13.09.2000.


VIOLENCE AGAINST JVP

JVP supporters who were pasting up propaganda posters of the Anuradhapura rally were brutally assaulted by the OIC of Galenbidunuwewa police Nihal Jayaweera on 14.09.2000. After assaulting to the JVP members this OIC arrested the JVP group and threatened to kill them and the OIC was severely drunken. JVP members Sampath, Ranjith Gamini, and R.M. Jayasinghe were assaulted on this occasion and comrade Sampath Prassanna was admitted to the Anuradhpura hospital. JVP provincial council member Ranaweera Pathirana has made a complaint to the ASP of Anuradhpura about this PA supporting OIC. JVP Kurunegal district candidate R.M. Ranjith Bandara and several other JVP supporters were assaulted on 10.09.2000 at Nikaweratiya town. The supporter of PA candidate Soma Kumari used a pajero without numbers for this attack and they were armed with T56 weapons and knives. An entry was logged at Nikaweratiya police under E.I.B 22/17.

JVP supporter Upul Nishantha was threatened to kill by a group of Pa supporters at Nawalapitya. A complaint was made at Nawalapitya police under E.I.B. 01/02. JVP member Kadar Mohamed was threatened to kill by group of PA group including the president of the Thawalama Pradeshiay Saba on 10.09.2000 night. A complaint was lodged at Hiniduma police under E.I.B 226/158.

The officers of Maharagama police removed the propaganda cutouts and banners, which were at JVP Maharagama electoral office on 11.09.2000. But, they have not removed any of decoration of PA minister GL Peris that is near by to the JVP office. A complaint was made at Maharagame police under E.I.B 39/20.

JVP electoral office situated at No 40, Yatawatta was attacked and PA supporting group at Matale on 09.09.00 set its name board and banners on fire. A PA supporter M.G. Lalith involved in this attack. A complaint was lodged at Matale police under E.I.B 8/5. The electoral office of the JVP Matale district candidate Jayantha Eramini was attacked by a PA supported thug group. A supporter of PA candidate Janaka Bandara, Ajjuward, in this attack. A complaint at Matale police under E.I.B 01/0 PA provincial council member Lalith Chandra's supporters attacked JVP members who were participating in election propaganda activities on 10.09.00 at Aranayake area. This PA gang including Chaminda Laxman, Bandula Sarath, Upul Gunawansa, and Stanely, have used steel bars and wooden sticks for this attack and they used 252-6652 jeep and 32-6521, which belongs to Health Ministry vehicles to this attack. JVP member, M.A. Punchiappuhami was admitted to the Aranayake hospital due to injuries. An entry was logged at Aranayaka police under C.I.B 14/14. On 10.09.2000, PA supporter Lilarathne and several others attacked JVP GROUP who was participating in election propaganda activities. JVP members, Neel Rajapakse, Bubulasiri, Bandusena, Rathnayake and Ruwanshantha were assaulted on this occasion. A complaint at Passara police under E.I.B 6/90. JVP Badulla district candidate H.M. Jayathissa and several others who were preparing the decoration for the JVP propaganda rally on 11.09.2000 at Bandarawela were threatened to kill by PA thug group. Supporters of PA candidate Rohana Laxman involved in this threatening and used a vehicle bearing 51-4654. An entry was logged at Bandarawela police under E.I.B 1/10. PA thug group together with Sarath Katupitiya and the staff of the Chinese Restaurant assaulted two JVP supporters who were pasting up posters at Rukathtana area on Negombo-Kibulapitiya road on 09.09.2000. The have used vehicle without number plates and destroyed the propaganda posters. JVP member P.V. Josaph and Wasantha Jeewananda were admitted to Negombo hospital. An entry was lodged at Negombo police under E.I.B 06/15.

Five Year Plan presented to the intellectuals.

JVP Five Year Plan, which describes the path of JVP prosperous country and build independent nation was presented to the intellectuals at a ceremony held ant Colombo Foundation center on 06.09.2000. Many intellectuals expressed their comments on Five Year Plan of JVP. A former law consultant of the United Nation Refugee Commission, Mr. S.S. Wijerathne told that the Five year plan book consist the policies to protect the supremeness of the law, which did not appear in Sri lankan constitution ever. He told that previous government feared to enter these policies in to their plans.
A lecture of Colombo Medical Faculty, Doctor Prasanna Kure expressed that it is very important to find our that JVP accepted the Health is a fundamental right of people. He stated that former government did not consider about this and they only followed the orders of World Bank and due to that Medical service of the country almost collapsed.
A well-known film director, Mr. Wasantha Obeysekara stated that there was no party, which explain so thoroughly the development policies to the country. He also expressed that people should organize to defeat this social structure, which destroy the country throughout past 50 years.
JVP General Secretary told that this is the one effort of hard working group of country who willing to do everything to develop and protect the country. He stated that the comments and ideas about this book and correction and additions are welcomed from the intellectuals of the country.


JVP initiate its election campaign at Galle JVP held a mass rally at Galle

GENERAL ELECTION 2000, VIOLENCE AGAINST JVP

JVP Anuradhapura district candidate M. Jayarathne and his supporters were assaulted on 04.09.2000 while they were organizing welcome meeting for candidates at Eastern Anuradhapura area. About 10 PA supporters participated for this attack. Due to severe injuries, comrade Sugath Wickramasinghe was admitted to the Anuradhapura hospital. An entry was logged ant Anuradhapura police under C.I.B 48/53. Three JVP supporters T.M wimalathissa, G. Vidyarathne, and S. Wimaladarma were assaulted on 03.04.2000 while they were involved in propaganda activities. Supporters of former PA parliamentarian P.B Dissanayake's supporters armed with T56 machine guns and pistols involved in this attack and damaged two motorcycles, which belongs to JVP members. Due to severe injuries, comrade T.M. Wimalathissa was admitted to Anuradhapura hospital. An entry was logged at Anuradhapura police under E.I.B 03/22. JVP Galle district candidate H.W. Thilakarathne and his supporters were assaulted on 03.09.2000 at Udugama Katugoda while they were preparing propaganda decoration for the first propaganda rally at Galle. PA Nagoda Pradeshiya Saba President Muthuhetti, Pradeshiya Saba member Abeysekara and his driver Thusara participated for this attack. JVP candidate H.W. Thilakarathne was first admitted to the Udugama Hospital and later admitted to Karapitiya General Hospital. It is found out that PA thug group broke His leg.

Armed PA supporters at Kadugannawa on 03.09.2000 attacked JVP Kandy district candidate Ruwan Kumara Weerasinghe and several JVP members who were pasting up posters on Kandy- Pilimathalawa road. PA gang armed with T 56 machine guns and pistols used two cabs bearing 251-9157 and 250-6019 for this attack. An entry was logged ant Kadugannawa police under E.I.B 01 /02.

On 04.09.2000 PA supporting thug group assaulted JVP supporters Sanjeewa Rohana, Sanath Weerasinghe and several other members at Kaim junction. PA parliamentarian Wijathmuni Soyza's supporters armed with T 56 guns and used a vehicle without number plates. These PA gang had threatened police officers that appeal not to assault JVP members. A PA supporter Unna Kumbua, personal guard of PA provincial council member M.K. Ranjith, with T56 gun threatened to kill JVP supporters. A complaint was made at Beliattha Police

JVP Matale candidate E. Gunarathne's home was attacked and damaged to the property by armed PA thugs on 04.09.200 night. The supporters of PA former ministers Janaka Bandara and Monti Gopallawa's supporters about 25 attacked to comrade Gunarathne's house and threatened his family.
