| Around 7 pm, after sitting more than 1,5 hours in the "Boiling River", we returned to the campground. We ate our dinner and then we decided since the town of Gardiner was close by to get a drink. James recommended the K-Bar. So we all went to the K-Bar. It was a typical bar in a small town. Mostly locals (since it wasn't the high season) with real cowboyboots and hats. And of course the traditional jukebox and pool-table. We drank a few beers and played some pool, even against the locals but those games we mostly lost. At 12 pm my tentmate and I left, but some of the others stayed until 1.30 am(so I heard later on). But since we had 2 nights in Gardiner I could make it up the next night, and boy did I. But later more about our second night at the 'famous K-Bar'. Day 5: 1/10/00 ==> More of Yellowstone Today we first saw the Norris Geyser Basin. Instead of pools of boiling water, now we saw a lot of holes in the ground where hot steam and water shot out. But everything still smelled like rotten eggs(sulfur). After that James drove us to Canyon Village were we were supposed to do a nice hike and since it was nice weather everybody was really happy about it. But soon the weather changed dramatically. It started to rain and it never stopped until late in the aftenoon. Because it rained so hard James decided that he should go ahead and bring the van closer so that we shouldn't walk too far. We still saw a lot of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. It was a nice hike, despite of the weather, we saw large cliffs and the trail went up and down, which was a nice exercice for all of us. Well maybe not for all of us. Sarah and Edith weren't that good with those ups and downs like the rest of us. |
