Well it turns out that we still weren't done! Even with the expansion, 1700 gallons is still small by koi pond standards. We had a tragedy in which we lost all of our fish by leaving the water running into the pond all night. It was horrible. We were heartbroken and even considered just filling it in but we were bit too hard by the koi bug and so decided on one more final expansion. The pond is now about 3200 gallons without the small water garden area functioning yet. Here are some recent shots of the new improved pond. We are still not done but it's closer than ever now. Most of the work left is just cosmetic.

(above) This is how it looks from the deep end. This end didn't change much.

(above)The main expansion was on the far end of the pond. It's more than twice as wide now.

This part is designed to be the first place where both filtered and unfiltered water dump before going over into the main pond. We have it by passed right now. We had to wait on that part because rather than liner we are using pond epoxy to pain it and the temp has to be right. We are hoping to have that part functioning by summer.

Won't it be nice when the waterfall is going again.

(above) the pit where the filter system and plumbing all come together. We plan to have decking and a trap door over this.

below are some pictures of my little fish farm. I never set out to breed fish but the fish had their own ideas about that. The only controlled spawns I have done so far are wakin goldfish only. I have various sizes of fry and young fish. The smaller the container, the smaller the fish!

Here's a recent video of the fishy kids in the new improved pond.
