September 19, 1009     Cincinnati Kids at Milwaukee Frosties   Game Four

Carl Mays (16-13) vs. Camilio Pascual (12-10)

Pascual the starter for the Frosties, despite the fact that Bob Lemon (23-11 on the year) is well-rested.    Paul Molitor and JH Lloyd single to start the game for the Kids . . . 1st and 3rd before the fans even get settled.  Joe Dimaggio singles scoring Mollie and moving Lloyd to 3rd.  Bill Terry fans but Mickey Mantle walks to load the bases for Reggie Jackson.  Pascual walks Reggie to make it 2-zip.  Frank Baker taps lightly back to the mound; Pascual throws to Earl Battey for the force at the plate, Battey tosses on to Rip Collins at first for the inning-ending DP.  Frosties are fortunate to get out of the inning only down 2.

Camilio settles down and matches Carl Mays out for out until the 6th when a Jackson single sets the sage for the third run.  Reggie moves to second on a ground out and Sam Crawford delivers a 2-out single to center to score Jax.  Kids up 3-0 in the 6th.

That run seems to awaken the Frosties.  Dobie Moore and Earl Battey slug consecutive doubles to start the home 6th.  Edd Roush singles Battey to third who then scores when Robbie Alomar raps into a DP.  Frosties cut lead to 3-2.

In the bottom of the 7th, Charlie Keller works a walk.  Eric Davis comes in to pinch run; he moves to second on a grounder.  With 2 out, Harlond Clift doubles him home to tie the game at 3.

In the Frosties 8th, Battey leads with a walk.  Edd Roush singles him to second and Robbie Alomar lays down an unplayable bunt for a single.  Bases loaded, no one out.  Rip Collins pops out to Molitor . . . but Mel Ott works a walk for the lead run!  Frosties up 4-3 and the crowd is going wild!  Cincinnati calls in Phil Regan to try to wriggle free of this jam.  Regan kayos Davis and induces a harmless fly to lf for the third out.

Lee Smith is brought on to sew this one up.  Wahoo Crawford greets the Big Man with a double to right-center.  Cincy catcher Carlton Fisk delivers the tying run with a base hit to center.  Smith survives the rest of the inning and the Frosties have a chance to win it in their half of the 9th.  Regan retires the Milwaukees 1-2-3 and we go into extra innings.

After a strikeout, Mantle singles and Reggie walks.  Baker singles to center, and Mantle is rounding third  . . . the throw comes to the plate . . . NOT IN TIME!  Reggie goes to third and Baker to second on the throw.  Cincinnati leads 5-4 with two men on and only 1 out.  Ron Davis comes on for Milwaukee.  He strands both runners and leaves Milwaukee with a chance.

Roush singles off of a tired Regan to begin the 10th.  Alomar Ks and a Rip Collins grounder moves Roush to second as Mel Ott comes to the plate.  Ott walks and that brings up Eric Davis.  Joe Judge, the lefty, is brought out to face the righty Regan.  He strikes out to end the game, 5-4.  The series is tied at 2 games each.
