September 18, 1009     Cincinnati Kids at Milwaukee Frosties, Game Three

 

Mort Cooper (12-11) vs. Jack Taylor (10-6)

 

Scoring opens in the bottom of the second when a two singles and an error combine to provide Milwaukee with a 1-0 lead.  Robbie Alomar delivers Earl Battey (who had reached on the error) to make it a 2-run lead. 

 

In the third, RF Mel Ott singles and is followed by walks to both Charlie Keller and Ray Dandridge.  SS Dobie Moore delivers a sac fly to left and the score is now 3-0.  After DH Harlond Clift produces a force, Earl Battey punches a single through the hole at short to score Dandridge.

 

In the 4^th, the Frosties attack again.  Rip Collins deposits a ball over the wall in right-center for a HR.  Jack Taylor, meanwhile, is on cruise control on the mound and he takes it into the 7^th with a 3-hitter.  Milwaukee opens the final third of the game up 5-0.

 

Cincy’s Reggie Jackson hits a homer to right to cut the lead to 5-1. 

 

Cooper provides Clift with a free pass to open the 8^th and is relieved by Lindy McDaniel.  Battey sacrifices Dave Parker, running for Clift, and Alomar doubles him home with 2 outs.

 

Jack Taylor, the miraculous comeback pitcher who had been out of CPBA baseball for 8 years and who had endured a horrific first season of 1-14 before winning 10 games this year (8 years later!) as a mid-season call-up, completes the game giving up only 6 hits.  The Frosties go up by a game in this best-of-seven series.

Louisville has smacked 8 HRs in three games. The other three teams have hit 6 total.

 

Milwaukee has yet to go to their bullpen.

There have been no stolen bases, no stolen base attempts, no intentional walks, and only 1 sacrifice.  The managers seem to be just letting the boys play . . .
